Post destroy, Shepard and Garrus have to begin a new life... From scratch. (Not related to mass effect relays, this is not a prequel)
After destroying the reapers, Shepard wakes up in a hospital room, where she recovered from her injuries, only to discover: 
1.she's suffering from partial amnesia and
2. the world she saved is still as broken as she is: stranded aliens, the council based on earth and one of her friends possibly plotting to betray her.

She had barely any friends and her only family was John, and she didn't feel much too comfortable talking to him about such things. It was always Nihlus. He was always there for her. While out on shore leave, she meets a turian Spectre who she fall deeply in love with, but when he dies, she's left sad and hollow.
