The vampires have run the realm of Riveath for as long as any human can remember. Their reign is not, as one might expect, a reign of tyranny and death. Their people have freedoms to travel, marry, and work as they like, as well as speak freely. But their laws are immutable, and well enforced. No violent crime, conspiracy, or theft against another citizen of the realm, especially the vampires. Certainly no trying to kill an Ancient's mate. When Nick Lakeman is falsely accused of just that crime, he is sent to Bloodrose Mansion, the seat of the High Ancients, to bear a sentence of servitude. He must learn to navigate through his new circumstances, but not everything is as it seems. Something is very wrong in Riveath, and Nick's innocence is just the beginning.
