After the war with Gaea, Piper and Leo decide to go back to the Wilderness school. Just to give their life some normality. Coach Hedge agrees to go back to make a living for Chuck and Mellie. But the others, well, they're concerned. The rest of their friends make Piper and Leo swear on the River Styx that if something happens that they will contact them. And it was good that they did. During a 'welcome to school' assembly a shooting begins. Will Piper, Leo and Coach Hedge be alright? Or will something happen in the process.

Jason has a problem. He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friends were two kids named Leo and V which was short for Vivian, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea-except that everything seems very wrong. Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, and her vivid nightmares reveal that he's in terrible danger.
