When Alan is to be crowned king of the night court, her presence is personally requested by King Alefric. Riasa will have to leave her court for the first time without giving away her secrets. Although the festivities are to last only seven days before she returns home, one of her secrets slips and she is taken as a prisoner and given the option to remain at the Winter court as a glorified prisoner or be killed. In a foreign court she must navigate her way to freedom fighting against rivals and royalty without being killed.
