Marina had a very tough life, growing up in a very abusive foster home. She was being raised to be the "perfect wife" to be married off for profit once she aged out of the foster care system. With time ticking, she escapes the home late one night by climbing out of the attic window to find a kind man she had met years ago in hopes that he will help get her foster sisters out of the home. after wandering the city of Williamsburg, Virginia for about six months, she finally finds the home of the man but is weak, sick, and hungry. James, a doctor, and his wife, Bethany decide to take her in, but there is only one way they can personally guarantee that Marina won't be taken from them. They are Vampires, who have lived in the city since 1890, James working on and off as a physician and Bethany a journalist. James "Adopts" Marina with intent to nurse her back to health in a stable home, and to help get her sisters away from the situation that she had previously escaped. The couple help marina find her worth by giving her the care that she needs, and introducing her to their friends and family who welcome her with open arms. along the way, Marina finds out more about herself than anyone could have ever imagined.

Ray is low on time, luck, and hope; his only chance is an artifact that may not even exist. But upon meeting Landon, Ray is beginning to believe he might find all four. ***** Cambions are doomed to tragedy. They are weak, sickly creatures that rarely live to see their twentieth year. Ray refuses to resign himself to that fate. Upon learning of the Crimson Sheath-an artifact capable of preserving his life-Ray is prepared to fight, steal, and kill to get his hands on it. He is not prepared for Landon. Landon is an orphan with no memories of his parents, the only inheritance left to him a dagger, sleeping in a crimson sheath. Though he has no love of bloodshed and no use for a dagger, Landon isn't about to let Ray take his only link to his forgotten history, even if that means following the cambion past the edge of the world and into the shadow beyond.
