Miss Ann is in need of a companion, perhaps to wards off loneliness and effect a change. She shares her feeling with a colleague, Mrs. Ngozi, who assures her of solving the problem. Mrs. Ngozi and Mrs. Nduka are also in need of house helps. The three move to Amara village in search of house helps. Luckily they bump into a man later known as Mr. Simple, a house help link who takes them to Madam Weke a house help merchant. While negotiating for the house helps, Chief Ama and several other Chiefs interfere and warn them to stop selling off the young boys and girls of Amara into domestic slavery. The warning notwithstanding, Mrs. Weke and Mr. Simple go ahead with their business, provide house helps, Chiyere, Nnê and Nkechi for Miss Ann, Mrs Ngozi and Mrs. Nduka respectively. In their routine visit, the mothers of the three house helps visit the madams of their children and discover that Nkechi is missing. They raised alarm and report the matter to the city police who detain Me. Simple and Mrs. Nduka for human trafficking. Chief Waka who is secretly behind the business, using all his connections and position, goes to solicit Mr. Simple's bail. Ironically, he his detained and charged to court along with Mr. Simple and Mrs. Nduka.
Chief Waka and Mr. Simple are convicted on all court charges, sentenced to life imprisonment, while Mrs. Nduka dies in the hospital where she is admitted. Chief Ama and the villagers celebrate their vindication and victory. They celebrate the end of despotic and corrupt rule of Chief Waka.
