Carmen is only in high school, and her life is turned upside down in a domino-effect series of events. Her siblings mean everything to her, and one of them (Will) becomes very sick. Her parents ship Carmen and her other siblings (Brett, Stephie) off to military school. Her parents are tipped off due to family and personal stresses, abandoning the kids. From then on, Carmen finds herself in a myriad of conflicts and situations. Military school gives her a space to grow as a person and feel respected by her peers and superiors. It is also 300 miles from Will, who stays permanently at the hospital. Soon enough, Carmen finds herself in trouble with the law as she challenges an abusive nurse. This lands her in prison. There she must continue to fight for justice for herself and her siblings. She also develops a friendship with a guy who has been in and out of the juvenile detention system for years. Carmen also has dreams. Ever since attending military school, she has wanted to go to a military college and become an officer. However, with a felony on her record, the odds are set completely against her. And she has Will to think about. How can she care for him while at school, much less in prison? How can she make sure Stephie and Brett's needs are met? How can she rebound from a six-month prison sentence in the middle of her high school career? .... Disclaimer? (not sure if that's the right word for it): These published chapters are far from perfect, and I'm just getting them out there as a start. Not looking for critiques at the moment, but maybe at a future time. I honestly just want to get my stuff out there, then edit a bunch from there. Enjoy!
