Montgomery De La Cruz spent his summer before senior year with a boy he met at a party: Winston Williams. At first it was only a hookup, but Monty found himself going back to Winston. Winston let him back, even though he got beat up by him. They solved all their problems with each other, talked about their lives, bonded, kissed, made love, and then parted. Monty was afraid of having to come out because he was afraid of what others would say. He chose to keep Winston secret which caused them to split. 

Senior year came, then graduation, and they still didn't get back to each other.
