"Hah. Hah." I woke up in cold sweat, breath coming in foggy puffs in the cold. That dream again. "Miss Scarlett? Are you alright?" Leo, my companion knight, stayed watch again, sitting on the windowsill. Seeing my eyes, he didn't move closer. "Your eyes are red again. Is it....that dream?" "Yes." I pushed myself up, pulling my knees to my chest. That recurring dream. The eternal chase. Their agonizing screams. The blue eyes in the dark. Her bloodied lips uttering the words... "Do not forget." Do not forget? How I wish I could. "Miss? Did you say something?" Leo looked somewhat peeved, his shudder evident as I stared at him with my eyes glowing red. A demon. That's what his whole body was screaming. I averted my eyes, trying to make him comfortable. He recovered himself in an instant. "Would you like some tea to calm your nerves? I learned how to make one." It's almost dawn now. "I'd like that." I stood up as soon as he closed the door, heading for the unused vanity table. Those demon eyes stared right back at me. Slowly, it dimmed. I watched as my eyes turned back to its usual black. Face your demons, they say...but. . . . "What if the demon is me?"

The blade of my hidden knife stops just a few centimetres from the prince's warm skin of his neck. He lays there, eyes closed and rhythmic breathing. His defined jaw relaxed and his teeth barely showing behind his pink lips. I hear voices coming from the hallway. I glance up at the door then back to the sleeping Prince. The door handle rattles, the guards yell from behind the wall. I bite my lip, balancing the blade just on the skin of the prince's neck. The door bursts open just as I slip out of the bedroom window into the cool midnight, no evidence of my attempt to assassinate the prince. ~~~~~~~~~~ Trained Assassin, skilled in over 4 martial arts, specialised in weaponry and one on one combat... And I couldn't kill the prince. So my question is, what stopped me? ____________________________________ "My chest literally hurts.
