Esme glanced sidelong across the room at the man she knew was going to destroy her. There was no glimpse of humanity in his face, though she searched for it, trying to be inconspicuous in her scrutiny. He was... familiar. Attractive. And dangerous. She hadn't known that when she'd met him first. His good looks belied his years, and his charm had caught her off guard then. But she knew better now. There had been pain the first time she'd met him - shocking at the time, but inconsequential in the long-run. There was pain the second time, too - this time a searing, agonising, senseless pain that still seemed to echo through her strange new body whenever she thought about it. But she knew that nothing would hurt as much as what this man would do to her next.
