as you lock the door to the bookstore you'd worked at for years, you feared you would never amount to more than a bookstore clerk. you adjusted the strap of your messenger bag on your shoulder, closed your eyes and took a breath. or at least half of one until that same breath was knocked out of you. you looked up from where you were now sitting on the ground,

"watch it man!" you suddenly wanted to take your words back as the most apologetic face looked back at you.

"i'm so sorry, please let me help you" he reached out his hand, "do you still happen to be open? i really need a book."
