The year is 1899, and Lillian O'Callaghan, an Irish immigrant adopted at the age of 7 by Dutch Van der Linde and Hosea Matthews, finally gets her man Arthur Morgan after four years of heavy flirting. The couple's relationship blooms quickly even though the 21-year-old woman has a troubled past that she never talks about, but soon her past comes to haunt her.
