Emma Clark is the star of Springfield High School where her and her small family nearly resides, and having her parents as the owners of Clark Enterprises, puts her in the position of being the most popular and richest. She also has a bubbly helpful personality, successful parents, outstanding academics, and her incomparable boyfriend, Nathan, which only adds to her overall "perfect" image. But no one knows what happens behind closed doors. In secret, she has been trying to keep her parents satisfied, but soon realizes she's basically living for them, figuratively burying her into the ground daily. Unfortunately for her, it's too late to change that. Or so she thinks. In her senior year, she meets the famous Mateo Williams, a closed-off transfer student from the opposite side of town since his father decided to have his new wife and son live with them. With tattooes that covers his right sleeve, a nose piercing that makes him look heavenly delicious, and baby blue eyes that charms ladies of all ages, he has the bad boy persona everyone wants to come close to yet run away from. Having his psychopathic thoughts and ideas as a bestfriend carved the wrong lifestyle into him and by his junior year he was known for everything. Needed weed or alcohol? He had it. Wanted to sleep with random girls? So did he. Wanted to vandalize property? He had the tools in his trunk. These two crashing in the same place coming from two completely different worlds is uniquely uncommon but with all of their circumstances working against them, they realize love, trust, and relations can be corrupted in the most craziest ways. Will they overcome their given obstacles together, or will they forever hide behind the facades they have made to keep their reputations lasting? Welcome to their Perfectly Imperfect love story. "When I tell you that he hates me, you'll probably assume it's because he's a jerk...but you'd be wrong. He's not a jerk. I am." --- Several years ago tragedy struck Emma's home, leaving her broken... like a cup with cracks spiraling and slithering around the edges. Slowly, bitterness crept in like tar, hardening between each fracture to resemble a deceitful wholeness. She became a monster, and targeted her venom on the sweetest person she could find: Trinity Nixon. Too bad the boy Emma longed for was Trinity's brother. Now, as Emma fights to win the heart of the boy who despises her, she's forced to hide her demons. She paints her fragile cup in pinks, yellows, and oranges - all the colors of the sun. She paints on a smile, and an unusual sense of humor, so that the world will view her as bright and cheerful, when in reality she's breaking. But she's completely unprepared for the acidic truth that melts away the tar, demolishing her shell, and awakening the Emma White buried deep inside. --- Book 1 in The Dismantled Pride series *Story was previously titled "Faking It"
