After living in New York the majority of her life, feisty, yet shy and awkward Chia Reynolds' life drastically changes when her parents decide to move her from the place she knows and loves across the country to California where she knows absolutely nobody. Starting her senior year in a new foreign place, enrolled in one of the most prestigious Fine Arts programs in the country, Chia learns quickly that not everything is golden as it seems. From making new friends (and enemies), Chia finds more than she is expecting when she gets into with several people on the first day of school including the Bad Boy of Music, Romeo Guerra, who is determined to make her year is one to remember. Will she be able to adjust to her new life in the Golden State or will things become too much for even the tough girl from New York to handle?
