As a 16-year-old in high school, Ruby's life is filled with grades, boyfriends, and annoying teachers. As a pyrokinetic, her ability to manipulate and create fire sometimes gets in the way of normalcy. When she saves her school from burning down and survives without a trace of injury, the wrong kinds of people start questioning her true nature.

Then, her best friend Eliza is kidnapped in her stead, throwing Ruby into a crazy world of sewers systems, scientific secrets, and intruding otherworldly dimensions that she somehow has to stop-dragging Eliza and Josh along for the wild ride.
