Mature
After defeating a necromancer and settling in by the hearth of a warm tavern set in the middle of a dark forest, a group of weary adventurers enjoy some food and drink, reveling in their victory. A strange mist creeps and snakes it's way into their rooms in the middle of the night and absconds with them to lands twisted, gnarled and sick, forgotten centuries ago by almost all beyond it's borders... All but the Vastani that is.
The land is his they say, the devil Strahd Von Zarovich, a sadistic vampire lord who commands all within the thick forests, jagged mountains and pitch black waters of Barovia. It's up to these wayward fellows to discover the secrets of this place and free the tormented souls from his grasp, or die trying.

Based on an ongoing real life D&D campaign with some added details and minor adjustments.

The quest is to find a powerful gem in the Deep Forest, and then to use what powers it bestowed on them to delve into the Mountain Barrier. There, they will have to find the Light to dispel the growing Darkness within. Though this qest is honorable and righteous, the dangers that await them are exponentially worse than they could ever imagine. Whether they can save the world depends on whether they can survive themselves. Mature rating for blood, gore and depictions of violence. TW: mentions of drunkards and beer, mention of physical abuses, a description of trypophobia, claustrophobia, and other phobias, and descriptions of nasty cryptids. There is no depictions or allusions of sex, no f-bombs, or drug abuse. This story was started when I was in seventh grade. I finished the original when I was a senior in high school. Displeased with the finished product, I began to rewrite it here, starting June 2015, then again in 2020. I am quite satisfied with the result, and am sure this will be the final edition. This isn't the first book of the series, but there's no spoilers for 'The World is Larger than it Seems', so you can start on this one. The story is far from finished, however, and I hope to eventually finish the series.

"The realm of Tenebrous lies shrouded in eternal twilight, where the sun never rises and the moon hides its face in fear. Towering forests of blackwood trees stretch towards the dark sky like skeletal fingers, their branches tangled with mistletoe and cursed vines. The air reeks of damp earth, decay, and the faint hint of blood. In this forsaken land, ancient magic seethes beneath the surface, waiting to consume the unwary. Cursed rivers flow with waters that can drive mortals mad, and the very ground seems to writhe and twist underfoot. The skies are home to winged creatures that defy explanation, their eyes glowing like lanterns in the dark. And in the shadows, unseen horrors lurk, waiting to strike. The denizens of Tenebrous are no less fearsome: packs of werewolves roam the forests, their eyes burning with an otherworldly hunger; witches weave dark spells in crumbling covens; and the undead stalk the land, driven by a hunger for life. Amidst this darkness, the city of Umbra stands as a twisted beacon, its spires and towers piercing the sky like jagged teeth. A place of dark beauty and foreboding, where the damned and the desperate come to seek their fortunes... or their dreams.
