Can you see me?
The thought trails across my mind like the rain on the glass.
My lifeline to the Outside; a small spherical window overlooking the road.
I watch as a young couple cross over to the other side and tap frantically against the glass, but they don't look up.
They never do.
I use to cry when they just walked past, but the years have numbed me.
Like my tears, my words have dried up, left me silent and empty like a star gone dark.
I try to imagine myself as one of them, carefree and in love, I can almost feel the cool breeze on my skin and the sweet taste of rain.
One of the metal boxes roars past, drenching the lovers, but they just smile away the cold.
I smile back, reaching out again to touch the glass.
My lifeline.
My jail.
