Hinata is being bullied by the 1st and 2nd years at Karasuno. They don't tell him if practice is canceled or not. Someday Hinata gets lost and finds a boy that also plays volleyball. He soon befriends him and his best friend. The boy realizes that Hinatas team isn't really nice to him at a training camp and invites him to come home with him. Karasuno tries to get Hinata back but they already lost him to the rival team. What will happen next? Will Karasuno have Hinata back?

Go watch Haikyu, it's really nice. Anyway, this is not connected to the original Haikyu, although the junior high part is. Anything that happens in this book is in their first year, and it will not necessarily be the same as what happened in the anime and manga. So, it's about how the relationship between Hinata and Kageyama slowly built and how they got passed their obstacles as they went for competition and tournaments.
