I usually prefer to write at night, when all family members are asleep and are not looking for attention. The night is a great time to write because you are more free from distractions and have already done most of the day's duties, leaving time for you and your writing.
So, what to do when inspiration doesn't come? Read!
I like to jump on the internet and access my favorite blogs, read some posts and almost always have an idea right off the bat (it's always good to also have a file to write down your ideas for short stories, chronicles and novels). When inspiration doesn't come, I don't get hot and just read posts and news, sometimes I play a little and watch a movie on the computer. No problem.
But this is rare. I always write down my ideas. On certain occasions, even looking at the ideas I have already noted, inspiration does not come. I am one of those writers who needs to be excited about the material, identified with the subject he is writing about.
I also get inspired when I read short stories and novels. Just look at the words on paper for a few minutes and ideas flood my mind, sometimes too quickly to be written down in time. I won't even mention how many I've lost like this, but I try to write them down most of the time.
My passion for the written word is such that I admire books in all their forms, especially those that have many pages. I like the smell of a book when it's new, even when it's old. For me, a book is a universe in itself, an escape, something that gives meaning to life. Not just a block of sheets of paper. It has life, and it can change other lives.
Novels, short story collections, even dictionaries, all provide ideas that I use in my texts, mostly short stories and chronicles.
In short, don't be discouraged by the lack of inspiration. Use techniques to activate it and keep the keyboard on fire!
In this book, you'll get a behind the scenes look at how your favorite characters were born, my creative process, and the dirty details never before revealed.
