"Everything changed on that fateful day, when the sky above the plaza filled with hexagonal caution labels, crimson liquid oozed from the cracks, and we were told to escape. The day the lives of 10,000 people were changed forever. The beginning of my new life inside of the floating metal castle, Aincrad."

Ryu Ueno was just your average, game-addicted high school student. But one day, he and a few of his close friends were trapped alongside 10,000 other people in Sword Art Online, a full-dive VRMMO governed by one absolute rule: If you die in the game, you die in real life.

Follow Ryu as he fights alongside your favorite SAO characters to climb the floors of Aincrad. He'll face hardships, overcome obstacles, and discover new emotions in his quest to become the strongest player in the game. But first, he'll have to survive.

Told in first-person POV.

I do not own any of the characters associated with Sword Art Online. There will be OC characters as well as characters brought in from non-canon sources, such as video games.

Kirito and I collapse out of breath, the sign above us screams 'Winner' as he defeated the boss of floor 11. "We did it." I say in between breaths. "Yeah.. well done." Kirito replies as he sat up. I sit up soon after, looking in my peripheral to see the countdown for when the Beta ends. "Just in time too, can't wait to brag about this during the full release!" I say enthusiastically. "Yeah, hopefully it won't take as long to get too.. not like floor 10." Kirito reminisces. < 1 MINUTE UNTIL FORCED SHUTDOWN > "Hey Kirito?" I began. "When the final release opens, let's make a party together. I feel like we could make it to the top, together." Kirito pauses, staring at me with no clear facial expression but then smiles before saying- "Sure, I can't wait.." ~><~><~><~ Hello!
