One Wednesday afternoon, when I was in year 8 I walked into an English class chatting with my friends. My teacher, Mrs A, said “listen up everybody! Today we are doing Poetry!” we all groaned and I thought that this was going to be the most boring English class known on the planet. But then she produced a packet of chocolate clinkers and a buzz went up inside the class. (for those of you who dont know what a chocolate clinker is, its a hard chocolate and when you bite into it there is one colour!). She said, “I want you to bite into a clinker, and without looking, guess what colour it is. Whatever colour you get, I want you to write a poem about it.” My attitudes changed pretty quickly to; maybe this isn’t going to be the worst English class ever?! We bit our clinkers and wrote our poems, and that day I went home inspired. I never realised that poetry was so interesting, or that I was actually good at it in any way. So I started writing about other colours and I guess that’s how this series came about! So thanks Mrs A, the best English teacher in the world, for handing us clinkers to write poems, and being so much fun!
