Nathaniel Garten is just another volunteer at the local hospital. After work, he helps out at Saint Matthias Emergency Medical Center, in general trying to lift the spirits of patients and their families. Every day, he sees grief and sadness, but manages to catch glimpses of the happy moments too. He sees pregnant women giving birth to the first child to start a family, and wrinkled men taking their last breaths surrounded by loved ones. Past all this normal flow of emotion, someone he's asked to talk to is left in this emotion by themselves- something that catches his eye, and he quickly gains interest in the patient. Cameron Valesquez has known that with his family history, these headaches weren't just normal. After they'd lasted for a week, he made the drive to the hospital alone; his father had passed away of the same genetic disease, and with no other family left to the young man, the news is kept between his doctor and himself. With no option but to stay in the hospital until other arrangements are made, Cameron finds that the best company he has is a hospital volunteer.
