When summer begins, Isabelle leaves school behind and escapes to somewhere glamorous. This year Isabelle's mom has her stay home to spend what could be her last summer with the family before college. Which is fine until she finds out her sister is going to New York, and her parents want to go on a vacation just the two of them.

••••

"Mom this isn't fair! You, David and Natalie are leaving. So...what? I'm spending my summer with Jason?"

"We were going to send you and your brother to the beach house. You can each bring A friend. You fly out Saturday."

"I'll call Kat."

**

"I’m going to Spain!" She shouts.

I pull the phone away from my ear as she screams. "That's great! When?"

"This weekend!"

***

"Wow! This is AWESOME!!! Now Ricky can come too." Jace says.

"No, you're already bringing someone! Mom do something!" I scream.

"Isabelle, I'm sorry if your friend can't come but I already got the tickets."

••••

That's just great.

Me, my brother, and his two idiot friends..

"Go away you stupid asshole!" I said in a firm whisper as I remembered my mum and dad were just in the next room. If they caught me, I was dead. I leant out my window across the high two story gap. Seb smirked cheekily and threw another bit of pencil at me from his window seal. It missed me and fell to the ground. How many did he have? And how can he play football with an aim like that? I was never going to get some sleep at this rate. "You know you can't resist me princess." he winked. Any other girl would melt at his charm. But unfortunately for me, I knew Sebastian too well. I just rolled my eyes and slid my window shut. I walked over to my bed and fell face down with my head in the pillow. Another tap on my window. I groaned and put the pillow over my ears. I lived next to a devil. One that needed to be taught a lesson. //Emily and Sebastian's families live right next door to each other. The mums get along. The dads get along. The little brother and sister get along. So why don't Emily and Sebastian? They have fought with each other their whole life, putting up with it for their families sake. They just can't get away from each other. It can't get any worse for them, right? Wrong. When the two are dragged away with each other's families on a surprise holiday, Emily and Seb have no idea how they are going to survive the four months on a remote island. They thought living next door was bad. Try living together. But will Takana Island change everything? Will the two teens stop arguing and stick together when things get tough? Or will this life long feud continue?

Friendless and timid, Guinevere is stuck in her socially anxious shadow, content to let her sister lead and live a sheltered life. Without Natalie pushing her to break out of her comfort zone, she'd be trapped in fear. The world is scary, even her own family conflicts terrify her; she needs Natalie's support. But what happens when Natalie, her big sister, her mentor and only real friend, suddenly can't be there for every moment of her life? Lola, raised to be a hardworking farmer, when all she wants is a bit of agency over her life, the freedom to do what she wants. And yet, she is perfectly willing to let Natalie handle conversations for her. For as much as she wants to be free, she wouldn't know what to do with herself, get meticulously caught up in planning the details and never end up doing anything. And Natalie, who has no personal desires, simply living in moments and finding the best in whatever is going on. Freely engaging with her friends and helping them, as she lacks her own internal drive, the self awareness to know what she wants. After a long childhood struggle with her self esteem and valuing herself, that has become what she "needs," her coping strategy with rough situations. Being complacent with what happens to her and simply accepting, with no real goals of her own, no idea that her friends are just as directionless as she is. When health complications arise for her, and her friend group is falling apart around her as she can't guide them, she'll have to ask the essential questions that she can't simply answer in a quick sentence. The questions that she has long dismissed as unimportant. Is this what she truly wants, to be solely fulfilled by everyone else depending on her for support? And where does she draw the line? This story touches on potentially triggering content, including the use of slurs, toxic family relationships, anxiety, anger, and death. "Bianca what the fuck was that?" David says to me as we walk inside his house. The whole car ride was silent, no one uttered a word and I don't know why. I hate silence. Silence allows the brain to think about a lot of shit over and over. He already had a lot of things replaying in his head. He probably thought about how to reply to my comments. He just had this whole conversation planned out already. "What was what?" I reply sitting down on the couch. I sigh of relief that I finally got a chance to take off my heels. "Y'all got something going on between y'all, don't y'all?" David replies standing up "I don't know what you're talking about" I unzip my jacket sitting it down beside me. I knew my nonchalantness would piss him off. "Bianca stop fucking playing with me" David spat back. He's not the type to raise his voice during an argument. You knew he was mad when he starts cursing at you and says your name all in the same sentence. "I'm not doing anything. I don't know what or who you're talking about David" I take out my phone and start to text Parish telling her how the event went. "You fucking Chris aren't you?" I just looked up at him making a stank face and then back down at my phone. "Hello? I'm talking to you" David stands in front of me. I wasn't in the mood to bicker back and forth with him right now. I could've just told him yes, but he didn't want to know the truth. He smacks my phone out of my hand. I look up at him "Are you fucking him?!" He yells at me and that took me off guard. "No!" I shout back at him. "Are we done yelling?" I ask calmly raising an eyebrow. "You think this shit funny?" He questions "Go home"

And he's driving Lauren insane. ****** Excerpt from That Summer "Well I'm surprised," he drawled huskily, playing with a strand of my hair. "You acted like a natural last night." Oh. My. God. What did that even mean? He chuckled at my deer-in-headlights expression. There was no way I would not remember losing my virginity to Jake. Hell, I'd memorize every second of it. "What do you mean?" I asked slowly, my stomach doing somersaults. Please tell me I'm jumping to the wrong conclusion. Pretty please. "Well," he started, a gleam in his eyes. "First, you grabbed the blanket and ripped it right off of me." I blinked at him, a horrified expression on my face. I slapped his hand away from my hair and turned around. Yup, there it was. Lying on the floor, along with my dignity. He continued solemnly. "And then, you climbed up on top of me." Could you die from your face overheating? I waited for my embarrassment to be complete as he tapped his chin, thoughtfully. "Yeah, that's about it." That's it? THAT'S IT? So I hadn't completely thrown myself at him. Just a tad. And the prize for the unluckiest luckiest horndog of the year goes to Lauren Can't Keep Her Hands To Herself Jules. I grabbed the pillow and smacked him over the head with it. Hard.
