My eyes snap open to the sounds of gunfire as screaming. I slowly slip out of bed and get dressed before heading to the window to see what was going on. A few screams and shots...that's normal. But the amount of gunfire and screaming going on now is suspicious. When I open the window, people are running from others who seem to have lost all sense of their humanity. "It's too early for this New York..." I plan on ignoring what's happening outside until I hear screaming from the apartment room next door. "Alright. Guess I'll play along." When I open the front door, what I see is not what I expected. "What the hell..."

As I leave, the cold British wind greets me. I zip up my sweater, and start walking home. Thanks to my parents, I don't have a car. "You're too irresponsible for a car, Courtney. I was just laying down on my bed, cuddled up with a book, when I heard a faint creak on the stairs. The sound was muffled seeing as the door was shut, but I heard it nevertheless. My eyes wandered to the door and I tried to be as silent as possible in my attempt to locate another sound. My body was tense, but relaxed when I didn't hear another noise. It's probably just my imagination, I thought. My paranoia was probably just getting the best of me since I was home alone. I heard the stairs creak again however and I heard... Footsteps.
