Sir Reginald Hargreeves attempted to adopt 8, but he got 7 and 'number 8' was left behind with her birth parents until they mysteriously died.

her uncle took her to safety and she grew up with him learning how to control her powers every day, she learnt how to heal others injuries and could even mentally inflict pain if she wanted, and she could use her empath sense to feel others emotions. 

when her uncle died she was left behind once again.

until she met him...
