Baxter's Phantoms is on the verge of collapse. Betrayed by their former archon, Katherine Steiner, the shattered remains of the once proud Lyran mercenary company have been drifting aimlessly through the Inner Sphere. Despite having lost over ninety percent of his former strength, Commander Michael Baxter seeks to return his unit to its former glory. He has defied the odds before, but with his numbers depleted and his finances sinking into never-ending debt, the situation appears hopeless.

However, hope soon appears in the form of a job from Periphery crime lord Boss Vilnius, and he is willing to buy the mercenaries' debt to cover the bill. On paper the contract is simple; deliver a small piece of cargo to a set of coordinates on the extreme fringe of the Inner Sphere. The catch? Baxter knows neither the contents of the cargo nor the identity of the buyer. Worse yet, other more powerful parties are interested in what the Phantoms are carrying, and they seem hell bent on taking it from them at any cost.

Echoes of an Empire by AnTiaLeo_2

Once rulers of the Mid-Line spiral, the Vhos Empire was betrayed and broken. Earth and its sister worlds were turned to ash in the Solaris Purge, a coordinated genocide by alien coalitions and former allies. The galaxy believed the Vhos were extinct. But history does not forget. Nor does vengeance. Driven into the Tacfelt Veil, an isolated, storm-ridden region of space, the survivors did not fade. They transformed. On dead worlds like Typhus, under rusted skies and cities buried in ash, a new kind of humanity was forged. Comfort gave way to discipline. Peace to purpose. The fire of their lost legacy smoldered, waiting to ignite. Now, after many millennia of silence, the Vhos Empire stirs once more. Dreadnoughts rise from aging shipyards. Fleets rearm in the shadows. Across the stars, whispers echo: The Vhos will return. On Typhus, three lives converge, Vince, a cynical laborer; Maln, fierce and restless; and Rei, composed but haunted by secrets. When the Empire calls, they are pulled into a war that will test their loyalty, identity, and the very nature of what it means to be human. Above them, Grand Admiral Nōrn, an icy tactician shaped by the old ways, struggles to control Project HADES, a superweapon that could tip the balance of the galaxy. And at the Empire's heart stands Imperator Augustine Vhos II, the last Scion of Earth. Revered as a visionary, feared as a conqueror, his Unifying Wars have redrawn the stars in blood. To his people, he is legend. To his enemies, an unstoppable force. As the galaxy spirals toward war, alliances will fracture, and destiny will demand its due. This is not just a war for vengeance. It is survival, rebirth, And the return of an Empire that refuses to die.

*Most characters and locations in this story do not belong to me and I claim no rights to them.* The Clans, descendants of the ancient Star League, have swept through the Inner Sphere in their quest to capture Terra and create a new Star League. The technology they wield is unlike anything that the Great Houses have ever seen. Behind their technological advantage is the mysterious Guardian of Legacies, but even more dangerous is the dark power that grows within the Clans midst. Hanse Davion sees no option but to accept the Clans rule of the Inner Sphere, but the arrival of an intruder within Mount Davion heralds a new opportunity to throw off the Clan yoke. Could this strange man with the bowtie really be the best hope for the Federated Suns?
