HYPE is coming-of-age story that focuses on fashion, friends, and the future. Think Gossip Girl meets Harmony Korine's Kids. It has a diverse cast of characters from different economic classes all coming together through fashion, music, dance, art, and hip hop culture.

Nylah Jordan lives with her family in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She is the only daughter of wealthy businessman and aspiring politician, John Jordan, and her attractive socialite mother Beth Jordan. While Nylah is beautiful and stylish in her own way, she doesn't exactly fit in with the other pretty and popular girls at her high school, who are always gossiping about boys, fashion, and the community of elites that their parents associate with. Nylah on the other hand has an affinity for disobeying her parents, sneaking out late at night, and being a part of the underground hip hop scene made up of artists, poets, and dancers.

One night while riding a train in New York, she meets Ethan Diaz, a scruffy kid from a troubled past. Ethan lives with his single mother in Brooklyn. Despite coming from opposites ends of the socio-economic spectrum, the pair form a bond over their love of sneakers and street wear fashion, and their shared disdain of the superficial and vain Manhattan elites.
