Cosette or as known as Mariposa Valentine was born in the Caribbean by her mother whom was mixed with North African and Iroquois blood (and participated in the revolution) and moved to the Newly country, United States. She made friends with all of her mothers close friends children (and even fell in love with one). But things start taking the turn for the worse, after her mother died and made her a renowned "Bastard orphan of the Caribbean" she is left in poverty with her aunt and cousins, and grows up in the lower class with dreams that will never be. When she was 13, her world was turned upside down from a tragedy to a happy ending, to being la Desesperada to la esperanza.

It's kind of in the title but I'll give the main character her juicy back story I guess: Liliana Petrou, originally Liliana Gabriel before she got adopted was living in an orphanage. She never did what she was told and she never followed the rules. Her parents died when she was little and she had no other family, this led to her having to keep a rather tough act that she hardly ever broke for anyone, you were lucky if you ever heard any emotion in her voice at all. Liliana never had that many friends people were either scared or jealous of her. Will she ket her tough barriers down for a handsome boy and her new family, or would she keep the facade. Liliana was a Quite a nice kid but will she like her new home, or will she act out like she did at the orphanage, who knows, read to find out! <3 Hope you enjoy the story. When she goes to leave, her mask falls off when she turns around. Nathan picks it up, and runs after her, but it's too late, because she's gone. The next day, Nathan tries to find the girl he danced with the previous night, by asking all the girls at Allenwood if it was their mask. Little did he know, that his last choice was Selena.
