You, the reader, are left to live with your father, Kataoka Tesshin, after your mother dies. As you grow up, you are constantly vying for his attention and validation. After an event in your second year of junior high, you decide that it's time for you to just deal with being overshadowed by the players your father coaches. You finally enter Seidou High, and you meet new friends as a result, and they coincidentally happen to be on the baseball team.
It's time for you to (hopefully) broaden your horizons, and become someone who isn't constantly seeking validation. But things don't always go as planned, do they?
