I was scared. Too scared to tell Komaeda that I loved him. But when the perfect opportunity arose, there was nothing I could do to stop myself from telling him the truth. It was after the murder of a close friend, and I soon found he was visiting to make sure I was okay. I was terrified to say anything, despairing over the idea of him rejecting me, but... Some of the topics covered, such as more frequent and normalized self-harm and one particular character fetishizing gay men, are not ideas that I agree with since the five years ago this was written. I want to make it clear that self-harm and suicidal ideation are not things to be romanticized, and that gay men are in fact diverse and complex people, who are not all one-minded. I did not necessarily think the latter at the time this was written, but it certainly could come across that way at certain points in this story. If anyone thinks I should change something to more realistically portray gay men, or to avoid romanticizing self-harm and suicidal ideation, please message me or leave a comment. Hajime Hinata is on a class trip to Jabberwock Island with ultimate students at Hope's peak academy. Although he's with kids from school and would most likely get along with them...he feels a strange awkwardness when around them. There's a catch though, Hajime isn't really like the others; he doesn't have an ultimate. Because of that, he thinks the others might look down on him. But there is one student that looks down on him the most, Nagito Komaeda: the ultimate lucky student. He believes since Hajime doesn't have a talent, he's not valid like everyone else and decides to put him down for something he can't control. Hajime just wants to be friends with everyone, but because this inconvenience he's very insecure about being around the others, and distances himself. Then Kazuichi Souda and Chiaki Nanami decide to include him since they feel bad, they just want him to be happy. Hajime starts to open up a bit after hanging out with them a lot, maybe with this new confidence he can get that one stubborn student to finally like him.
