You wouldn't think people really do that kind of stuff in real life, right? You always think it's some tasteless, stupid thing in "teen" movies written by forty to fifty somethings trying to be "inclusive", right? If there's a gay character, and there just happens to be another gay character in a ten mile radius, they're immediately attracted to each other like the opposite ends of a magnet. I lived the first 17 years of my life making fun of that trope. I always found it hilarious. You know, besides it being tone-deaf and dumb as a doorknob, it just made me laugh that people can even bring themselves to think like that. I couldn't tell if these writers just assumed that gay people are desperate or that our brains are wired differently to the point where we just don't behave like people. Surely people like that don't REALLY exist... right? Yeah. That's what I used to think.
