In the dark allies of Deathfalls, people are being viciously slayed in the streets at the midnight hour. Mordecai Black, socially inept but well meaning, faces a beast on a forested route home, and worries the creature may be behind all the mayhem. Meanwhile, lively Olivia LaVite and her roaming troop of monster hunters, headed by the morally gray Madam Gale, believe a different breed of monster is to blame. As the truth in Deathfalls begins to unravel, both Mordecai and Olivia begin to have their lifelong questions finally answered. Why Mordecai can only remember the last year or so, and why his blood runs cold as ice and his heart as still as the dead. Why Olivia has an all engulfing rage inside her heart she cannot place, and why with every rise of the full moon she turns into the uncontrollable beast of her nightmares.
