His hand reaches up to pull my hand away from his face as he holds it between both of his hands. He looks at them thoughtfully. "You make me want to feel...you make me want to feel," Kai whispers, urgently and fiercely. His grip on my hand tightens and my eyes widen. He glances up at me. His eyes are dark and intense. "And I don't want that. I want it to stop. Now."
The words fly out of my mouth. "It would have stopped if you had just let me die," I blurt out without meaning to. There is a clear recognition in his eyes as he remembers what I'm implying to; he never had to come for me. He never had to help. He didn't have to do anything to remotely save me. He tilts his head in wonder and my eyes soften. "But you knew. You knew at that moment, in that one second, when I was in your arms, that could have made the difference if I lived or not. That if you had just chosen the latter, it would have all stopped for you."
"I couldn't let you die," Kai blurts. "I can't." He sighs and bows his head. His voice is low and utterly vulnerable. "Please tell me what's wrong with me. I want it to go back to the way it was."
