Deep beneath the shattered Earth, in the winding sewer tunnels beneath the old city of Milwaukee, Liz sits in silence.
The world ended long before her birth, ravaged in the fire of forces far beyond her control. The surface, life before the end, all of it was a harsh memory to her elders and a distant dream to herself. Day after day, she pores over weathered pages and decrepit books, hoping to learn just a little bit more about what life above used to be like.
Today, however, she is finally ready to make a decision that could let her learn far more than any of her books ever could.
And she would soon discover more than she ever should.
