There are few people who are allowed to cross the house lines and be freinds with people from every one. Hufflepuffs are the exception. Everyone knows, and is good friends, with at least one Hufflepuff. I mean, what's not to like? They ground the high-strung Gryffindors, they make great study buddies for Ravenclaws, and they're a wholesome complement of the cunning and passion of Slytherin. As the saying goes, everyone needs a Hufflebuddy, especially Slytherins. Aster Foley beamed when the Sorting Hat told her she was a Hufflepuff without even touching her head. Pansy expected nothing different when it declared her a Slytherin.
