"The Shadows and Sunlight" is a young adult novel that follows the journey of a teenage boy named Tom as he navigates through his complex emotions and relationships. Tom lives with his mum and has a close relationship with her. Becky and Joe become an essential part of Tom's life as he starts to explore his own identity.

Tom has always feared being perceived as weak, especially after experiencing bullying in primary school. However, as he forms new friendships and meets a new love interest, he begins to challenge his beliefs and find strength in vulnerability.

Throughout the novel, Tom faces various encounters that test his character and beliefs. He must confront his fears and insecurities to embrace his true self and live authentically.

She has yet to experience the teenage lifestyle because she has to work hard to keep the lights on. Dread is a common feeling she always feels, she wants more, a better life but she doesn't have much to get there. Going to an high end school doesn't make matters any better when she has to constantly be reminded that it isn't her lifestyle, and those like Silas Remington will make this one hell of a school year.
