Ever since he met the alien wanderer/schoolteacher called the Doctor, fourteen-year-old Shinji Ikari's life has only gotten crazier by the day. With the Doctor's help, he's survived getting press-ganged as a child soldier in a war for humanity's survival, alien invasions, zombie attacks, fourth-dimensional tactics, the origin of all life on Earth, and even the wrath of his fellow pilot Asuka. Strangest of all, he finds that he may -- for the first time that he can remember -- actually be enjoying himself.
His newfound enjoyment of his life may not last for long, however, as the Doctor continues to probe the dark secrets at the heart of the paramilitary organization NERV. From an old enemy hiding deep beneath the streets of the city, to a shadowy international conspiracy seeking to manipulate humanity's future, to a series of even more insidious attacks from the mysterious aliens known as the Angels -- it's going to take Shinji everything he has just to hold on to what remains of his sanity. And even that may not be enough to save him. It seems that the future holds a terrible fate for Shinji -- one that not even the Doctor can protect him from...

But while trying to do this his actions and very presence will cause unseen consequences as throughout his journey he will gather allies, create enemies for himself, discover and expose the secrets of some of the main cast, all in the potential hope of thwarting the efforts of Gendo and SEELE in order to change the fate of everyone and everything on the planet Earth. The fate of the world used to belong to Shinji... But that's all about to change.
