Why Fitz isn't a horrible character

Sooo after making the whole KOTLC ship war I realized how hated Fitz was. And I'm going to be honest here, I was a Fitz hater too. But I think, after rereading the series I actually started liking Fitz. Shannon did really really well with his character. For everyone that hates Fitz I hope you take the time to look at all the great things about Fitz. And for all the people that love Fitz, well, enjoy the book I guess.

Fitz and Sophie never broke up, and they kissed without Silveny interrupting. But when a war with the Neverseen rages on and a new enemy is thrown into the mix, Fitz's lack of acknowledgment for Sophie's feelings drives a wedge between them. Sophie is torn between fighting the Neverseen and dealing with her terrible love life, but they still fight on. Only when the sun shines do you truly appreciate the calm of dark. Sometimes they wonder if it's better if they had never known the truth about their new enemy. This fanfiction used to go by the names Stars Falling, A Fitzphie Story, and one other that I forgot, but I changed the title to Sacrifices which is more fitting. Mind, I was a pretty hardcore Fitzphie shipper when I started this, so it's Fitzphie for like, the first forty-two chapters or so, although there were rifts in Fitz and Sophie's relationship. Fitz Vacker is a student at a private boarding school, under the stress of classes, homework, and social status. He's a straight-A student and is always at the top of his class. He is in his senior year, plenty of girls want him, he is a popular, and an athletic guy. Yet he feels so empty. He knows that he's missing something, but just doesn't know what. He's become desperate to find what he is missing and has resorted to asking his best friend and dorm mate, Keefe. Keefe manages to convince him that he needs to get out and have some fun! So that Friday night, they went out on the town to a club. After an hour there, Fitz decides that this was just a waste of time and that he should head back to study. He starts walking through the packed club when he bumps into a girl. He catches her just in time and begins to apologize when their eyes meet. The world stops and at that moment, there's nothing missing in his life. Everything is complete and he had never felt so filled with happiness. He stumbles out of the club a few seconds later to catch his breath outside. He has no idea what just happened or why that girl made him feel like that.
