She first began writing poetry in the 8th grade when she was first introduced to it through her English teacher, Mrs. Knoll. Right off the bat, Thaiyana realized that poetry was the positive outlet she had been looking for to communicate with the world about her mental state and her struggles with being a victim of sexual assault.
She often struggles with writing about personal and traumatic experiences in her poems. But she does this anyway because she knows that if she doesn't explore the intricacies of all that happened, then she will just continue to bottle it all up. Suffering in silence. Poetry is now her way of being truly vulnerable.
