Void is the son of Khaos. He is the most powerful diety in existence, second to his father of course. The main thing separating them is that Void isn't formless, in fact he looks quite ordinary. Well as ordinary as you can get with better looks than Aphrodite herself. 

He has many of his fathers abilities such as creating things out of nothing, telekinesis, teleportation, invulnerability, shape shifting and immortality.
 
However, being almost the oldest thing to exist lead to him being bored. Similarly to a cat, when he got bored, he got destructive. This often meant visiting earth and playing with the humans. That is how he landed himself in Mystic Falls ready to break the hearts (and possibly the bodies) of anyone he went near him.

Although this time he wasn't so lucky, for he managed to fall in his own trap.
