JD's pet hamster, Slushee, spent a week alone and without food in a dirty, smelly, hamster cage after JD's suicide before realizing his beloved friend wasn't returning home and that JD's dad had forgotten about him. While searching for JD, Slushee meets Veronica, who takes him in and gives him a kind and loving home. Together, they have many adventures, some as simple as Veronica ranting to Slushee after a long day at school, and many as complex as when Slushee and Veronica head off to college and adapt to the new environment.
