Diary or the Dead by MishIsEvil

In an attempt to remember the time he was alive Dew reads his own diary. Dew is a simple servant, working in the kitchen of the king of a relatively small kingdom somewhere in the north. Having changed from a barely human water creature into a young boy five years ago he had found it difficult to fit into the new social environment. Now he thinks he figured out the way things go, working on daily basis, taking part in some events and living with his best friend Avery, who works as a knight. His life drastically begins to change though after poison attacks are launched towards the old king and now he is blamed for it. Additionally Avery breaks down, revealing dark secrets he had kept for years. Suddenly the simplicity of his former life is destroyed and every day could mean the end of him. This is a fantasy story taking place in medieval times. There are elements of dark romance to be found. This story includes descriptions of death, gore and mutilation as well as a little bit of drug abuse. The story takes place in a medieval setting, so themes such as sexism, execution, arranged marriages, implied incest and war can be found. Characters go through phases with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. There are vague recounts of voluntary intercourse but implied rape as well. One consensual scene is written out but there will be a warning. "Diary of the Dead" is part of a three part series. This is the first book. I'm currently working on the second/ third (depending on the order one wants to read it). The chapters are comparably short and the language is easy because I'm German and English is my second language.

Twenty-two-year-olds Arielle Daniels and Stella Sullivan go on an east-coast ghost-hunting tour to honor their recently deceased best friend, Jade, whose death remains a mystery. Only her parents know the circumstances, and they refuse to tell anyone. Stella wants to pay her respects by following Jade's bucket-list; but Arielle wants real, palpable answers. What happens after death? Why has she lost so many loved ones? And how exactly did Jade die? In the midst of their journey, Arielle realizes she might have been in love with Jade, but now... she has no way to be sure, and no idea how to reveal this to Stella--or anyone else, for that matter. As they travel, the girls discover more about themselves than they anticipated, both forced to come to terms with their emotions; Arielle to accept her bisexuality, and Stella to acknowledge her heritage as the descendant of a long line of psychic mediums. But the trip takes on an eerie tone when they get more than they bargained for, and swallow up more occult knowledge than either ever expected to find in their lifetimes. • WARNING: this book is rated MATURE for handling triggering, sensitive issues. Karissa lived a calm life in South Town with her father, Peter. Upon her mother's death in her teens, she rebuilt herself, and lets her mother live on in her memories. As her 18th birthday approaches, she begins to have strange dreams. Her childhood best friend, Amanda, and their new friend Lorelei from the northern city of Irkah, one day overheard a conversation that will soon change their life forever. Just two days before her birthday, grief sets in when her friends go missing, and she's left without them, not knowing where they could be. On the day of her 18th, she discovers that her eye has changed color. Scared and confused, she confided in her father and Amanda's grandmother, Rhian. They tell her the stories of what is truly happening, what she is. Introduced to the Magic Folk's world and its people, she must follow those who once guided her mother. Professor Chasm and Headmaster Andla offer Karissa guidance and teachings for her newfound life of being one of the Magicks. Now she must find her power so she will be able to defend both Magic and Human lands against their enemies whom threaten all's way of life. Read Eye of the Wyvern to find out more of what happens to Karissa on her journey of adventure, self findings, love, heartbreak and grief. (this is the best way I could put this description without spoiling the whole thing and giving away juicy details :))
