"How did I survive? What really happened on May 15th? Why do I have multiple scars?"

"But most importantly, who did this to me and why do the words 'checkmate b-a-b-y' always hunt my dreams?"

***

Battling with trauma and amnestic syndrome, Maeve Myers only wanted the pain to stop and to lead a normal life. But her life was far from normal as the devil who caused the scars that her body carried was back on the loose, killing innocent young women that had a clear resemblance to her as a clear message that he had unfinished business and no one was going to stop him.

What happens when Maeve finally remembers and realizes who her tormentor is? Will friendship and true love save her this time? Will she have enough time to even stop him before he kills someone she loves or would she finally accept her fate and stop fighting?

Octaveus was depressed. He knew it, but no one else did. He hid it, just as he hid his scars. He wasn't human either; he hid that too. He hid almost everything about himself from everyone, in order to minimize the ridicule. His mental state, his thoughts, his scars, even his questionable sexuality. But that only fed into his sadness. Drew was insecure. He didn't like standing up for himself in fear of saying something wrong. He didn't even change in the main locker room for PE, he went in the stalls. He was anxious. He wanted to know what was happening and when so that he can prepare for all possible outcomes of that event. And he was gay; his family knew and supported him, but no one else knew. He was too scared of how they would react to tell them. Jessie knew his brother would be teased. It was really a fact. Humanity wasn't too good at accepting of different beings. No matter how human Octaveus made himself look, he couldn't hide his unnaturally pale skin that no matter how hard he tried would not tan or his yellow cat eyes. He just had to try to fit in, same as the rest of their family. Seth was the school bad boy, and secret werewolf. His hobbies included pushing around the Freshman, flirting relentlessly with any and every attractive popular girl in sight, and trying not to think about Octaveus. He didn't want other people to find out about his thoughts on the emo new kid. So, naturally, he made Octaveus's school day a living hell. But he still couldn't figure out why this new kid intrigued him so much, besides that he was obviously not human. {BOOK 1 OF THE 'Scars I Hide' SERIES} *CAUTION: Mature for scenes of self-harm and suicide, PG-13 language, graphic violence, and some sexual topics* IF YOU READ THIS, DO NOT SKIP THE INTRO. "Getting closer to me is like walking straight into the flames of a burning building." "Then burn me." I interrupted, staring deep into her eyes. "Engulf me in all your raging flames and let's see if I survive." She gazed at me for a moment, her head slightly shaking, eyes warning me, "You wouldn't want that... You'd only regret it." "I'd only enjoy it." I corrected. "I'd crawl through those flames, burning and melting down to the bone if it meant finding that one place of security. That one place that's free of flames." [For some people, the past is a place in your mind where you could reminisce on good times and valuable moments with the people you called family. For Nicole, it's where her darkest secrets lie and where the people who were considered "family" visited her in her nightmares. Trust is almost a thing of the past for her. She's avoided because of it, feared. No one dares to understand her, no one dares to even look in her direction... But HE did and he wasn't going to be pushed away easily.] . . . Maeve's ability to touch others' souls can be heartbreaking and confusing, but when she connects with two murderers, it turns her world upside down. Are they still killers if they only kill monsters? What starts as a random attack on the street stopped by two strangers quickly escalates as Maeve discovers her attackers were demons. Thrusting her into their violent world, Maeve struggles to hold on to her humanity, making choices she never believed she would have to make. Disturbed but drawn to each of them. Will's bestial nature calls to her one moment and rejects her the next. While a powerful attachment to Ander's gentle soul comforts her, but every time they connect, she feels his darkness just below the surface. Will's entire life has been a war against monsters, alongside his best-friend Ander. Honor bound by duty, he is brutal, relentless, and uncompromising in his mission to protect the masses. He didn't understand how much his world would change after saving Maeve, or how she would shatter his convictions. Ander may have magical talents but in his mind, nothing will redeem him from the abomination he is. Bound by more than shed blood, Will, his adopted brother, and only friend. Together they seek and destroy aberrations that poison the world. Until Maeve touched his hand, there was nothing else but the mission. With her, Ander could see a different side of himself, a different life. This is a character driven story written from the 3 main characters POV's. It's a mature adult dark romance & contains dubious triggering situations that some might find offensive. If you want an instant, fearless heroine, Maeve won't be it. Her story is discovering who she is & what power love can bring versus kicking monsters asses. Power & money aren't the only things that make the world turn & those that wield the greatest power control destiny. If you're looking for heroes, Will & Ander are NOT it. If you're drawn to tortured villainous souls, you'll enjoy their saga.
