It starts like this.
A hand clutching at his own, warm and loving, as someone ruffles his hair.
"Be good, A-Ying." His mother presses a kiss to his forehead, giving him a smile that seemed to light up the world. "We'll be back soon."
And those words morph into the hurt that comes with being a forgotten one, with only broken promises as his company.
It is like the chill that comes from losing a golden core, that is almost reminiscent to the coldest of winters in the streets of Yiling, and it is like the hunger in his gut, insaitable, feral, a wild fire that cannot be curbed.
He can only watch, time after again, as he loses those he loves.
And he wonders if this is the price for going down a heretic path, for his arrogance and naivety.

The White Phoenix
Legend has it that the white Phoenix was the most legendary Devine creature to ever exist. Not only that, but only one was to exist. The only one to exist was also a supreme god, and known to be son of the realms. His name, Wei Ying, courtesy name Wuxian. Since Wei Wuxian was a Phoenix, he has to go through a cycle of nirvana (rebirth) that can occur any time around 50,000 years old. At that time he will burn to ash and rebirth from the ashes, the problem he won't regain his memory until he reaches age 18 in the cultivation realm. Until then he is also having to cycle through infancy, toddler, child, teen, and at 18, which is an adult. He would only have the highest level of cultivation until his memory is regained and his Phoenix form ignited again. Once ignited, he will gain his supremacy back.
