The Queen

Queen Maria Pembleton never asked for this role. Her mother died when her brother was born. But that was unheard of anymore in 21__. Her father shut himself away for nine years, and unbeknownst to her, he was sick, and slowly dying. Now, at 25 she has taken the throne. Not only inheriting a crown from her father, but also a kingdom with problems she had never heard about. Her sheltered life has made her unaware of the starvation and illness rampant in the slums of her kingdom. But she can't avoid it anymore, and it's her job to deal with it now. Raymond Jacobs immigrated with his aunt when he was 3. All he has ever known is the slums of Rennes. A new queen has just taken power. He didn't even know the king had children before the queen died. He was 17 when the queen died, and he had heard nothing of the royal family since. He wasn't even sure there had been a royal family after that, but sure enough, when the king died, his daughter took the throne and revealed herself and her brother to the public. In fact, he had gotten an invitation to a lunch at the castle. All of his small neighborhood had. It was such a surprise when they got the letters, that they thought it was a joke.
