"Did you miss me?" his twisted smile sent chills racing down my spine but I tilted my head instead. Show no fear, Avril. Show no fear.

"I missed the chains," I informed him, shaking my arms to make them rattle. His brown eyes gleamed as he glances at the handcuffs.

He frowned. "I've missed you, my love."

That made one of us.

-------

It was not unknown what had happened.

It was not a secret that she had been kidnapped.

Except it was because if they knew she had uttered a word of her treatment, she would be dead.

Avril Jackson was always considered average. Even when she was returned safely, it seemed like she wasn't even harmed. The only person who knew otherwise was her best friend, Nathan.

She was now in college and everything was going great besides the fact that Candice Duffy, the most popular girl and her friend, went missing surrounding a familiar set of circumstances too close to comfort for Avril. She chalked it up to nothing but then Nathan goes missing and that was not something she could handle.

Maybe it was a childish prank gone wrong but all Avril knew was that she had to save Candice and Nathan even if it meant losing herself along the way; revisiting what she desperately tried to forget, and coming to terms with the fact that she's in love.

A tale that started back in a place further from home. A boy she remembers yet also forgets. Three years after returning to America, Selene finally finishes out her years as a college student, gearing up to graduate in her final and fourth year to complete a Bachelors in Art Sciences. She's set to graduate in three months in the state of Washington. The streets are quiet in her home neighborhood, but the city nights are always busy. Everything was going fine. She had her father's support, she was living in an apartment down in a city forty miles from Seattle and she drew quietly at home and went to school by day. She didn't even have to work so long as she had good grades, her father would pay her way. Then an unusual quiet night on campus sparked her curiosity. As the college closed up for the close of the quarter, she noticed them wandering the grounds. Four figures were hunched over at the fountain, one of them laughing loudly. She didn't usually pay any mind till she caught the reflection of one of their eyes, casting a yellow gaze back at her that shook her. A familiar look she couldn't place. She drew in closer, her voice timid to call out to them. Why did he come to mind? What happened to him after she was shot? She hardly could recall. Her mind was fuzzy with questions, but she began to notice more now that the group was either looming closer to her or she was drawing herself closer to them. When she got to them, the realization of what she did finally came to mind. This wasn't the type of can of worms she should have opened. Why couldn't she just remember to stay away?! Nick raised an eyebrow, then pointed at her before jerking his head toward the door, a silent command. She hesitated, clearly unsure if he was addressing her. He gave a firm nod to confirm. Without another word, he turned on his heel and strode out, fully expecting her to follow. Sure enough, hurried footsteps echoed behind him as Candice struggled to catch up. Amused, he smirked and lengthened his stride just to make it harder for her. The quiet muttering behind him-probably curses directed at him-only made his grin widen. Then, abruptly, he stopped and spun around. She had no time to react. With a soft gasp, she stumbled right into him, her small frame colliding against his chest. Instinctively, his arms shot out, one securing her waist, the other catching her wrist. For a brief moment, the world stilled. The scent of vanilla and something floral-maybe jasmine-filled his senses, making his grip on her tighten just a fraction. Her hair brushed against his chin, silky and soft, sending a rush of warmth down his spine. His heart pounded unexpectedly, each beat echoing in his ears. Candice's eyes fluttered shut, her lashes trembling as though bracing for a fall that never came. She looked... vulnerable. Almost fragile, like a porcelain doll. A sudden warmth spread through Nick's chest, an unfamiliar feeling he wasn't ready to acknowledge. When she finally opened her eyes, her gaze met his, wide with shock. The magnetic pull between them was undeniable, a charge that neither seemed able to break. Her soft breath fanned across his skin, sending an unexpected shiver down his spine. For the first time in a long while, his heart skipped a beat.
