It's been three years since Cypress High joined the Spring Cup; and their principal has decided that it's time to take action--more importantly, to /win/.
And how she plans to do that: joint practice. With none other than two of Cypress' biggest competitors.

Nate Underling, basketball captain, isn't sure how to feel about that. Especially when the opposite team's hard headed captain and a three year rivalry between two schools starts taking a toll on him. Not to mention the trouble with his on-off-girlfriend Rebecca, and the strange 'something' that's been getting on his nerves since August.

But in the case of Cypress' swim team captain Cassandra Thomas, her problem isn't the team she's practicing with--it's herself. How she doesn't want to fail anyone; not her team, and not the other school's team. Most importantly, not her boyfriend Sam, who she feels she is failing already-- especially when rumors of him checking out another girl start spreading around the school.

Shawn Abrams of the Cypress basketball team, however, has it good. Except for that one part where he can't make his best friend Helena fall in love with him--which he finds is going to be harder than he thought now that he has some competition for winning her heart. Then there's the case of the other school's volleyball star, who's had her eye on him for a while.

And everything else just goes to hell.
