Her scar haunted the man as he realized he was falling in love. The girl's name was Emma Woods, but for some reason, she never strayed far from the trees that laid shadows over head. Though he didn't know her darkest secrets, he longed to be with her forever and she longed to be with him. "Why don't you leave the forest? And what's with that silly scar on your face?" The man asked when he and the girl first met. "I'd rather not say. Some secrets are meant to stay secrets, not be spoken." The man would often tell his friends about the lovely girl he met in the woods, but she would always disappear when he tried to introduce them to her. Though Maverick fears embracing the unknown, that's what Emma longs for him to do before telling him the truth about the scar on her face that's unsettled him since the first day that they met.

Book 1 of the Jackson Series! Ella finally gets an opportunity to escape the clutches of her cruel tormentor before fate leads her to Ryder Jackson. Broken and bruised, she soon finds comfort in Ryder who is equally as hesitant to wear his heart on his sleeve. Both have pasts that they just want to forget and souls that need healing. Will they be able to move on together or will history catch up to them? *** I smile shyly and move closer to his face as my eyes sneak a peek at his lips. Meeting his gaze that has darkened with desire I curl my fingers around his collar and pull him closer. "Now, are you going to kiss me?" "Yes." He nods before leaning in until his lips are a breath away. I pull back which makes him groan in frustration. "Promise to never let me go?" It happens in a blur. His lips descend on mine in a hungry yet passionate kiss filled with longing. I whimper softly when his teeth bite down on my bottom lip and coax me to give in. And, I do. His tongue meets mine as we explore each other, tasting and savoring. I tangle my fingers in his hair and tug slightly which makes him kiss me feverishly. It's like he almost doesn't want this moment to end no matter how much air is becoming a matter of priority. I pull away first, dazed still. He follows and his lips trail over the heated skin of my neck, kissing across my jawline, teasing the corner of my lips before nibbling on my earlobe. I'm a mess as I crave more of his addictive touch. I feel like I'm flying. "I promise to never let you go, Ella." Published: 10-April-2020 Prologue: "He was an old man, probably died on his own. Did the letter say that he was killed?" I was asked. When I heard what had been said, my face turned yellow. Something I had been blind to suddenly became so clear. I had mentioned visiting that man, but i never mentioned that he was killed. Nor did I mention receiving a letter. "How did you know he died?" I asked. "You told me, silly." "No I didn't. And I never said anything about a letter." I said firmly. Emma fell asleep on the plane and woke up in a mythical kingdom. The place was spoken about in legends and myths only, but it doesn't exist on any map. While trying to open the passage between the realms, she meets a man who might be able to change her mind about leaving. However, she keeps getting threats from an unknown stalker who kills her loved ones one by one. But would returning to her home end her problems, or would the stalker still torment her?
