Year after year, Nicaragua continues to rank amongst the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Approximately one-third of its population lives below the poverty line, especially in rural areas. A large portion of the low-income communities survive merely on $2 per day for all their needs. Some days, the wages are even lesser.
