That's what Hydra had drilled into her mind. She was meant to inure, torture and kill, not care nor desire anything in life. However, when she is sent to spy on Captain America, the man reminded her about her own value and who she was.

Hydra had created a weapon, they didn't expect her to backfire. She was intended to be Hydra's means to domination, she turned out to be its destruction.
